Preparing for a Funeral Livestream: A Family Checklist
Everything you need to prepare before the livestream begins, from sharing the link with relatives to coordinating with the provider on the day.
Before the service
Confirm all details with your provider at least 24 hours before the service. This includes the venue address, start time, expected duration, and any specific moments you want captured (such as a particular song or speech).
Share the streaming link with family and friends who will be watching remotely. Send it at least a few hours before the service, along with the start time converted to their local time zone. Include brief instructions on how to access the stream.
Key Tips
- Send the link to diaspora relatives at least 4 hours before the service
- Include the start time in the recipient's local time zone
- Ask the provider when the stream will go live (usually 15–30 minutes before the service)
On the day
The provider will typically arrive 1–2 hours before the service to set up cameras, test audio, and verify the internet connection. Make sure someone at the venue can direct them to the best camera positions and introduce them to the officiant or ceremony coordinator.
Inform key participants (speakers, musicians, officiants) that the service is being livestreamed. This helps them be mindful of microphone positioning and pacing.
After the service
Ask your provider how and when you will receive the recording. Some deliver via download link, others provide video-on-demand access for a set period. If you want a permanent copy, confirm whether downloading is included in your package.
If the stream was private, ask the provider how long the link will remain active so you can notify relatives who may want to watch the recording later.
